Care of sealed lead-acid battery please?

I have an electric cycle that runs on 2 12V batteries so that I can join family bike expeditions as a disabled person. This year I bought a new lead-acid battery as the previous one just didn't seem to be delivering enough oomph! The difference is amazing & the distance I could travel is much extended - and the power output is much improved. At nearly 60, so that I can get a few years use from it, please can anyone tell me the best way to store & care for the battery when the bike is put away after the summer - and between bike useage - which might be once a month. The info on the battery says it has "Low self disharge of just 3% per month" and has "Excellent recovery from deep discharge" - but I don't think the idea is to just leave it for months on end. Should I keep recharging it every so often even if it's not been used? Any help, much appreciated.
