Sending my son to Summer Camp?
Okay, I will try to explain this as simply as I can. I have a seventeen year old son, and like and 17 year-old, he's very impressionable. I want to send him to summer camp before he's forced into manhood. I think Ive done a decent enough job raising him, but I hope to send him somewhere where he'll learn things about being a generally being a good person while he's there. I think there's too much emphasis on judgment and forming labels for people in our culture (while I acknowledge that people should have their own 'roles,' or whatever). I just want him to learn about loving and accepting his fellow people. It seems especially important now in a time when globalization is widespread and the citizens of tomorrow will be able to help people struggling in the third world. And I think this message would be most easily conveyed to him if he were around kids his own age. Does such a 'camp' exist? Or anything similar? Does this sound like a good idea, you guys?
