Is This Really A Rational Defense Of The Book Of Mormon?

For them, no it's not a problem to dance around the contradictions. I've had several conversations with them about many of these same issues, and the general consensus always seems to be that because I'm not a Mormon, I don't have the Word of God in its fullness, and therefore I am wrong in any umptions I make about their scriptures. (Which I am perfectly capable of reading without the need of a translator.)
